If I remove the shifter, the flash is over the center of the lens, but then the lens is not centered over the ballhead for proper weight distribution. There is also no way to rotate the upper arm. It stays fixed in one position. To use it with my Nikon SC-29 cord I have to buy yet another adapter. If you overlook these shortcomings, it is well made and compact and easy to store.
